
Dr. Jerome
Wernow is the executive director of the Northwest Center for Bioethics,
Portland, OR and teaches as adjunct faculty at Western Seminary. Prior
to these positions, Dr. Wernow did research, published, and taught as
a Louvain scholar at the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Law, Catholic
University of Louvain, Leuven, Belgium.
He is a licensed
pharmacist and practiced pharmacy in Oregon winning the Oregon Society
of Hospital Pharmacists' outstanding projects award for contributions
in the development of the 'Pharmacy Recovery Network', a peer referral
service for chemically dependent pharmacists.
He has served
as a missionary in Belgium with Greater Europe Mission and as a medical
missionary in Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia, where he directed the pharmacy
at Bethesda Hospital. He earned his doctorate summa cum laude
at the Catholic University of Louvain.
His research
addressed end-of-life issues in terminally ill patients. This was an
outworking of previous work done at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary,
Portland, Oregon where he wrote his master's thesis on euthanasia in
the early eighties.
He is married
to Dr. Mary Ellen Wernow and enjoys the company of his two children,
Josiah and Briana.
